BASOVCA EMPOWERED 200 MOST VULNERABLE OVC CAREGIVERS

The Executive Chairperson of Bauchi state Orphans and Vulnerable  children agency Hon. Hassana Arkilla Tawus (JP, Gimbiyar Lwong) today 18/12/2020  hosted a 200 most vulnerable Adolescent Empowerment program held at BASOVCA Technical College.

Cutting across food & nutrition, skill acquisition and house hold economic strengthening among seven key areas of intervention from the Agency.

The programs include:-

1. Hair dressing

2. Cosmetics

3. Bead making and 

4. Eateries/ food making.


Each participants received a start up pack and #10,000 each except those who were trained on Bead making who received #20,000 capital due to high cost of materials.

The program is targeting Most vulnerable Adolescents and caregivers to cushion the effect of hardship and also  alleviate poverty.

At the occasion His Excellency the Executive Governor of Bauchi state who was represented by the chief of staff Government house Dr. Ladan Salihu Illelah (Barden Yamman Bauchi) while delivering a keynote address charged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items given to them inline with the etiquettes, rules and regulations they learned from the training.

He also earmarked the approval of the state Government to further provide scholarships to additional 2000 OVCs to reach 393 electoral wards of the state adding to the monthly allocation of Five million naira (#5,000,000) meant for the  purchase of drugs to OVCs at the hard to reach Areas.

H. E  Also applauded the collaboration of the Agency with Federal ministry of Labour and Productivity that created and acceptance of the training exercise by the Ministry that yielded to award of Trade test certificate (Class 3) to participants.


While appreciating the support of the Government the chairperson of the Agency  made mentioned that this is not the beginning of this kind of program in BASOVCA but another phase since the inception of the Government of H.E Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON (Kauran Bauchi & Jagaban Katagum),

She also said Government allocations, Interventions from donor organizations are put together in making this program a reality.

Hon. Hassana Arkillah said the Agency have seven key sectors of intervention namely; 

° Health

° Food & Nutrition 

° Psycho social support

° Skill acquisition Empowerment

° House hold economic strengthening

° Education

° Legal and shelter.

She further said the Agency usually get funding from 1% deduction from workers salaries and 2% from public office holders remuneration.


The Agency enrols only orphans of 0 - 18 years of age to enjoy the above listed target Areas.

She said before Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed CON came on board, Only 12 LGAs were  benefitting from the Agency but today 20 LGAs are captured.

Votes of thanks and farewell to the august visitors was part of the chairperson remarks.


Her Excellency the wife of the executive Governor and first lady Dr . Aisha Bala A Mohammed ( Sarauniyar Bauchi) expresses satisfaction with what is going on in Basovca, charged the Agency to do more with the assurance of there unflinching support as a Government.

Her excellency took time to nurture the beneficiaries with words of wisdom, and advice them to take it serious while hoping for their  breakthrough in their respective endeavours.

She also said helping the needy should be everyone's business through only that we will translate our increasing population into viability.

Been the end of the year it is a good timing in which proper action plans and future check and balance of progress will be examined.
