His Excellency, Senator Bala Abdulkarim Mohammed CON Kauran Bauchi, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, graced the 2023–2024 legal year ceremony held at the Bauchi State High Court.
Governor Bala affirmed his commitment to supporting the seamless operation of the state's legal system, aiming to facilitate the swift resolution of outstanding cases, fostering industry growth, and contributing to the overall development of the state.
In addressing the gathering, Governor Bala highlighted his administration's backing, encompassing financial support for lawyers' fees, provision of modern equipment, and the approval for the recruitment of twenty (20) state councilors and lawyers.
The collaborative and effective partnership between Governor Bala's administration and the state's court system received commendation from Dr. Ibrahim Danjuma, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association Bauchi State Chapter. Dr. Danjuma urged the governor to continue advancing the frontiers of the state's judiciary within the bounds of the law.
Chief Justice Rabi Talatu Umar of Bauchi State explained that the legal year ceremony is a time-honored tradition symbolizing the commencement of the new legal year. It serves as an occasion for justices to reflect on the achievements and challenges of the preceding year, assess them, and strategize for the future.
Governor Bala's proactive support for judges and the justice delivery system garnered appreciation from Justice Rabi. The judiciary pledged continued support to Governor Bala's administration, working collaboratively for the advancement and reform of the state.
Governor Bala disclosed his approval of crucial legal frameworks, including criminal administration of justice laws, penal code amendments, legislation against gender-based violence, and provisions for the mobilization of recently appointed high court judges and Khadis. These measures aim to enhance efficient justice delivery in the state.
The ceremony, attended by judges, political associates, and other dignitaries, showcased the harmonious relationship between the executive and the judiciary in Bauchi State.
