BREAKING: Bauchi Govt closes all schools over coronavirus

By Prince Bawa Joe As the cases of coronavirus continue to sour across the world, Bauchi state governor Bala Mohammed has announced the closure of all public and private schools across the 20 LGAs of the state. Governor Bala Mohammed said the closure of the schools takes effect from Monday, March 23, 2020. The governor made the announcement at the end of an emergency stakeholders’ meeting that houses religious and traditional leaders as well as heads of all security agencies in the state. COVID-19: Plateau Govt. threatens sanctions against violators of ban on crowd gathering

by Prince Bawa Joe The Plateau Government has threatened to sanction any person or group of persons who deliberately violate its ban on crowd gathering in the state in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic. The State Commissioner of Information and Communication, Mr Dan Manjang,  gave the warning in a statement made available to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos. Manjang said that the warning became imperative in view of the flagrant violation of the order issued by the State Government. He said that the decision was arrived at during a critical stakeholders meeting of the state comprising Traditional Rulers led by Da Jacob Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom Jos, religious leaders, CAN and JNI leadership, various women and youth groups and Professional bodies. COVID-19: Kogi Govt. directs civil servants to work from home

Prince Bawa Joe Kogi State Government has directed civil servants on Grade Level 1 – 13 to stay off offices for 14 days as from Monday,  March 23 as part of efforts to prevent the spread of Coronavirus to the state. The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, made the announcement in a statement on Monday in Lokoja. Fanwo said: “Only workers from GL 1 to 13 are affected by the directive to stay at home while GL 14 and above are to report at their offices. “Those rendering essential services are to continue to go to their work places as they are not affected by the work from home directive,” Fanwo said. According to Fanwo, the decision, a preventive measure is subject to review after the first week beginning from March 23. The state is yet to record a single case of the deadly  disease. Fanwo, however, said that civil servants on critical duties will be communicated by the state Head of Service on how to keep the system running...

Bauchi speaker empowers 500 unemployed youths

By Prince Bawa Joe Mr Abubakar Suleiman, Speaker, Bauchi State  House of Assembly has disbursed N5 million to 500 unemployed youths to enable them to engage in productive activities. Sulieman, distributed monies to indigent constituents as part of comprehensive youths and women empowerment initiative. Mr Abdul Burra, the Spokesman of the speaker made the disclosure in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Bauchi. Burra said the beneficiaries were carefully selected in the eleven wards in the area,  adding that the scope of the programme would be expanded to mobilise participation. He said that 200 females received N5, 000 each while 300 their male  counter part got N10, 000 each, respectively. Burra said the disbursement committee set up by the speaker would monitor the beneficiaries to ensure effective utilisation of the monies to achieve the expected positive impact on them. Coronavirus: Journalists tour media establishments in Bauchi

By Prince Bawa Joe Some journalists in Bauchi have called for the intensification of collaboration by stakeholders as a proactive measure in tackling the increasing threat of coronavirus in the country. The journalists, under the aegis of Bauchi State Public Health Media Network (BSPHMN), made the call in Bauchi on Wednesday when they toured media establishments in the state. They, in particular, solicited for the cooperation of heads of media organizations in the onerous task of enlightening the people on the scope of the threat, as well as the recommended practice to reduce such threat. In her remarks, Miss Elizabeth Carr, Focal Person of DevCom, a non-governmental organisation in Bauchi, explained that BSPHMN was inaugurated few weeks ago as a result of a training conducted for journalists on public health issues by the NGO.                        Government officials meet with ASUU leaders over strike action 💅by Prince Bawa Joe The Federal Government (FG) and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) did not reach an agreement yesterday over the ongoing two-week warning strike embarked on by the union .     The meeting, which lasted till late night, was the second as the two parties seek to resolve issues raised by ASUU. Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, stated that the Federal Government had tabled a new proposal regarding the impasse over the Integrated Payroll Personal Information System (IPPIS) enrollment for members of the union. Both the FG and ASUU did not reveal to journalists what the proposal was. The directive came from the NYSC headquarters in Abuja Wednesday morning, according to a source. The orientation camp of the 2020 Batch A Stream 1, was ongoing across the 37 centres in the country with the Stream 2 corps members expected to resume camp on April 2. The coronavirus has killed over 7000 persons globally while three cases of the virus have been confirmed in Nigeria as at Tuesday. An Abuja High Court had on March 4 ordered the suspension of Oshiomhole. Reprieve came his way on Monday when an appeal court ruled in his favour. Oshiomhole chaired the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) meeting at its national secretariat in Abuja yesterday. At the end of the meeting that lasted for about five hours, Oshiomhole announced the lifting of the suspension on the party’s National Deputy Chairman (North), Senator Lawal Shuaibu and the National Vice Chairman (North West), Inuwa Abdulkadir. The suspension of Shuaibu and Abdulkadir by the Oshiomhole-led NWC was part of the issues that fuelled the crisis rocking the party. Katsina records first suspected coronavirus case

By Prince Bawa Joe Katsina State Ministry of Health has recorded a first suspected case of coronavirus, the permanent secretary Dr Kabir Musptapha has said. Briefing news men this morning, Mustapha said the patient, who is presently in self isolation, returned from Malaysia and developed symptoms that warrant further investigations. “Already, his samples have been taken and results being expected tomorrow. The contact tracing will commence as soon as results are out,” he said. He noted that the ministry is taking all precautionary measures and closely working with National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on the matter. The permanent secretary advised people of the host community of Dutsinma town to be cautious of movements and gatherings. He added that people should feel free to seek medical attention as all precautionary measures were in place to provide support. Another Nigerian tests positive for coronavirus

The Federal Ministry of Health has confirmed another case of Coronavirus disease (( COVID-19) in the country. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to three. Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire made the disclosure Tuesday while briefing newsmen in Abuja. He said the latest case was a Nigerian national in her 30s, who returned from a short visit to the United Kingdom on March 13th . The minister said the patient decided, to go on a 14-day self-isolation when she returned to the country but subsequently developed symptoms of fever and cough on March 16th , at which point she voluntarily called the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) toll free call line, to report her condition. The All Progressives Congress (APC), Kano State chapter, yesterday asked Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State to create a new emirate for the dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. El-Rufai had last week appointed Sanusi as the chancellor of the Kaduna State University. Before then, he had hours after the dethronement of the emir, appointed him as vice chairman of the board of the state investment promotion agency (KADIP). The governor crowned his support for Sanusi with a visit to Awe in Nasarawa state where the deposed emir was banished. His visit coincided with a court order that freed the former emir from banishment. Lagos explosion: 3 more bodies recovered

Three more bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the Sunday morning explosion which occurred at Abule-Ado, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos. The figure brings the number of those who died at the scene to 18, while many more injured persons have been admitted at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Navy Town, Ojo. The Public Relations Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the recovery of the three bodies, adding that a child was rescued alive. The Command Information Officer, Western Naval Command, Navy Commander Thomas Otuji, said that a total of 55 persons were rushed to the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital by rescuers led by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command.
